Officials in Sacramento County are examining a violent incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park at the time authorities were breaking up a large unsanctioned party of a crowd of several hundred.
What Led to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue at about half past six in the evening after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Soon after, another report was received regarding a possible fight taking place within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Shooting Itself
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies began the process of clearing the park by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing the crowd to go home. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots were discharged. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
Ultimately, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four check here — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical teams noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and provided medical assistance those who had been shot before they were taken to the hospital.
Physical Evidence
The main crime scene was believed to have taken place adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators identified more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the metal fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. These findings indicated that a second shooter had been aiming south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was locked down during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.
Arrests Made
Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic indicated that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in Solano County California. Four people were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
